NAME: Yaha-kui zaShunina
CANON: Kado: the Right Answer
CANON POINT: Episode 8, after revealing the Sansa to humanity.
AGE: At least 15 billion, though probably much older since he predates the inception of the concept of "time", and was already kicking around for a while by the time the Universe came into existence. Physically, he appears as a young adult somewhere between 17 and 23.
BACKGROUND:
A long time ago--so long ago that the mere concept of "time" had yet to come into existence--the Anisotropic beings created countless "information cocoons"--spaces with different initial conditions in hopes that one of them might be able to generate the information they crave on its own. They waited for an eternity, until one of these created a singularity that eventually developed into life. This was our universe. Humanity constantly generated information, and thus could be read any number of times and still get something new. They were the golden thread of the information cocoon project.
Yaha-kui zaShunina, however, wasn't satisfied with this--he wanted even more information, and so to advance humanity and increase their information output, he prepared four anisotropic devices (Kado, wam, sansa, and nanomis-hein) that would unlock humanity's potential and feed an unprecedented quantity of information to the Anisotropic.
In modern-day Japan, a massive cube appeared in Haneda Airport, landing on top of a passenger plane that happened to contain Shindo Kojiro, and absorbed it into itself. Shindo agreed to act as emissary to the Anisotropic, and with his assistance, zaShunina began to spread his devices amongst humanity.
The first was Kado: the boundary device he used to manifest on Earth. The second was Wam: an object that allowed electrical energy from the anisotropic to flow into the Universe, breaking the laws of conservation of energy and granting humanity access to infinite power. The third was the Sansa: a device that vaguely resembled a brain and granted awareness of the anisotropic just by looking at it. It had various effects on the brain, but the most prominent was the ability to never have to sleep again, without the harmful physical or psychological side-effects of sleep deprivation that would otherwise occur. The fourth was Nanomis-hein: a console of sorts that allowed the one controlling it to reconfigure the very parameters of the universe, including gravity, time, and mass, among others.
Originally, Yaha-kui zaShunina's plan for advancement was simply that; to advance humanity. But as he spent time among them, he developed emotions and grew to love humanity itself, not just the information they generated, and his plan changed. No longer did he want to simply give his gifts and then passively process the generated information--he wanted to bring humanity out of the cocoon to preserve it as an entity so that it might endure forever, unbounded by the limitations of the universe, and show him even more "miracles".
Each device granted humanity a greater sense of the anisotropic, and thus increased their chances of surviving the transition. Though it wasn't his original plan, each gift did serve his altered goal: to successfully transform at least one human and bring them out of the cocoon.
PERSONALITY:
The first thing to be aware of is that Yaha-kui zaShunina is not human. He is entirely alien in mindset, and thus human mores and psychology cannot be applied to him. He is a being that long predates the existence of organic life, and in fact the universe itself. He is an Anisotropic being--a completely logical thought entity that exists in 40-dimensional space with an insatiable hunger for information. That disclaimer out of the way, let us begin.
For an eternity, zaShunina existed as any Anisotoron, without emotion or desire beyond processing information. When he came to the Universe and to Earth, however, things began to change. Through his interactions with Shindo Kojiro (a negotiator for the Japanese government), he slowly began to develop human emotions. In most other science-fiction stories, this would be seen as a good thing, but in zaShunina's case, this sudden influx of strange feelings did not come with it human morals or the context to understand these emotions, or the knowledge of how to properly express them. Everything he feels is strange, new, and completely alien to him. Even the vague, wistful longing he begins to feel toward Shindo is something he has no context for, and without the emotional maturity to understand this feeling, all he knows is that he desires him, and wants to keep him forever.
zaShunina has difficulties viewing humans as individuals. They are as mice to him--countless scurrying creatures that all act the same, except for one. Shindo is the mouse who acts differently from the others, the one who keeps surprising him. He likes people who are unpredictable and those who actively seek knowledge. Those who aren't afraid of new things, and those who question everything. In his own words; "You must keep thinking. To always keep thinking is the only right answer in this world."
Anisotropic beings crave information, and they perceive everything in terms of information. As a result, zaShunina is boundlessly curious about knowledge and new experiences. He spends much of his time reading books (any book, the content is irrelevant as it is all information), and even though he could instantly scan and assimilate the information within, he prefers to use the intended method of consumption.
However, viewing the entire world as information isn't always so benign as curiosity. It also means a number of things that we as humans would find morally objectionable. Everything is information, and information can be transferred or replicated, including people. Individual life doesn't matter so much when the information can be backed up and reloaded at will, so creating a clone of a person and then killing the original would not result in a loss of information, as the same person still exists, just less a few hours of memory. He lacks the human concepts of "good and evil," as there is no such thing as good or bad information. Information is simply information.
He also has issues with consent, frequently doing things without people's permission and very rarely divulges more information than necessary at any given time, even if it might be useful. For example, though he loves Shindo, he is often careless with him, making decisions or taking actions that could potentially harm or even kill him. When explaining the uses of the nanomis-hein, he altered relative time between Shindo and himself, accidentally leaving the man in complete isolation without food or water for 70 hours. When there is an error in the processing required for Shindo to be able to leave Kado the first time, his brain was altered to be more in line with the anisotropic. zaShunina didn't even bother to mention that there was a processing error until Shindo started noticing things weren't quite right, and in fact described it as an overly successful and desirable result. He also failed to mention that altering Shindo's brain removed his need for sleep until it became relevant to his plans. He doesn't lie, but he does withhold information.
Despite this, he is not malicious. Nothing he does is out of malice, and even his more questionable actions are taken with the best of intentions. He is a fundamentally benevolent entity who honestly believes what he's doing is right and will ultimately be for the benefit of both humanity and the Anisotropic. Originally, his plan was merely to accelerate the evolution of humanity to increase its information flow--something that would benefit both mankind as well as the anisotropic in a symbiotic relationship. However, as he gained emotions and fell in love with humanity itself (and with Shindo, specifically), his plan shifted to wanting to preserve it. This, too, did he believe to be mutually beneficial. Humanity as a whole will be eternally preserved when they would naturally die out in less than a billion years, and the Anisotropic will gain their endless wellspring of information. Everyone wins... except the majority of humans who wouldn't survive the transition, but so long as a single human makes it, then humanity as a species is preserved, and zaShunina's goal would be realized.
At the time of his canon point, zaShunina's emotional state is very unstable. He's torn between his instincts as an anisotropic being and his newly-formed emotional spectrum. He has wants and desires now, as well as likes and dislikes, something anisotropic beings have never had to deal with as logical, emotionless, sexless entities. He still craves information on a basic level and plans to carry out his original mission, but he's also begun making some decisions based on emotion. Unfortunately, since he lacks the experience to express these in an appropriate manner, these emotions are just barely controlled, and it wouldn't take much for him to take an especially strong emotional response in a very dangerous direction. On the plus side, most of these powerful emotions are aimed solely at Shindo, whom he has come to covet, and he remains fairly indifferent to everyone else.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Yaha-kui zaShunina is a being who exists in 40 dimensions rather than the three that humans occupy. As such, his perception of the world is strikingly different, and his abilities reflect this.
-Telepathy: His native means of communication is complete mental synchronization, transferring information through every sensory channel simultaneously. He learned very quickly that the human mind is not capable of handling such an immense influx of information (by nearly killing the first person he tried it on), and so limits himself to verbal speech--though he still sometimes speaks telepathically, he doesn't do this often, and it functions mostly like a private channel, or to project his voice great distances to listeners who would otherwise be unable to hear him. Moreover, this is not true telepathy, and is a spacial quirk of speaking from outside three-dimensional space to allow sound waves to penetrate physical barriers.
-Telekinesis: Fairly self-explanatory. He can make objects float. However, this is also not true telekinesis, as it uses spacial manipulation rather than mental power.
-Folding Space: As a 40-dimensional being, zaShunina often folds space as a matter of course, as reaching though higher spacial dimensions is simply his way of interacting with the world. His most common application of this ability is to detach his arms and use them independent of his body. He is capable of doing this with any part of his body, including his own head. While he doesn't make a habit of it, he can also produce multiples of these body parts, effectively giving him as many hands at once as he needs.
Another application of this ability is pulling objects through solid surfaces. Essentially, he can make things "clip" though their surroundings by moving them through higher dimensions and "around" their three-dimensional boundaries.
-Fregonics: Because the boundaries between the anisotropic and the Universe are highly exclusionary, friction occurs when whenever one tries to interfere with the other. This phenomenon was given the name "Fregonics" and in practice, is more or less a perfect shield (It was tested against a tank round. The tank round melted). In truth, this phenomenon occurs because zaShunina is bad at manifesting in the universe, so the exclusionary phenomenon is a result of forcibly connecting the boundaries of Universe and the Anisotropic. It is an automatic response to attempted harm over which he has little direct control, and though he can extend its area of effect at will, he cannot turn it off. Abilities or weapons that can pierce across dimensional boundaries can bypass fregonics and damage zaShunina.
-Energy weapons: Anisotropic beings contain within themselves vast amounts of energy that can be utilized in various ways. One of these is weaponization. Beam swords and bursts of energy are crude but effective methods of energy output.
-Biological needs: zaShunina's body is an artificial construct created as an interface so that he might interact with the Universe. Because of this, it does not require the same upkeep that an organic body would. This means he doesn't need to eat or sleep, though he can if he chooses to do so. It also means that destroying his body would be little more than a minor setback until he could create another one, but lacking the full-sized Kado, this is not an option, and he will be tethered to his body just the same as a normal person--if it's broken or destroyed, he will "die." He'll still be alive in a sense (essentially a ghost), but will be unable to interact or communicate with the world unless he can get a new body or repair the old one.
Because of their potential for being gamebreaking, these abilities will be nerfed to an extent, requiring Chroma to use any energy attack or when the fregonics barrier is attacked (and will burn through his supply very quickly), and in the case of depletion, a deactivation of fregonics altogether until it can be replenished.
INVENTORY:
1. Mini-Kado: A palm-sized pink cube with much of the same functionality of the 2km3 Boundary Unit, on a much smaller scale. In truth, this is an extension of the larger Kado made to be portable, and functions as an interface for the full device. As it will be separated from the full-sized unit while on Prismatica, it will lose much of its processing capabilities, only keeping its ability to read and relay information directly to zaShunina, item storage, and item duplication and creation will be limited to small, inanimate objects.
2. A simple paper bookmark decorated with an origami seahorse. There is nothing special about this object beyond sentimental value, and zaShunina keeps it on his person at all times.
None of his other anisotropic devices (wam, sansa, nanomis-hein) will come with him, because any one of them is potentially gamebreaking in one or more ways, and it wouldn't be IC of zaShunina not to use them in such a manner.
Items obtained in Prismatica:
3. Dusklight Bracelet. Usually kept in Kado-storage.
4. Totally Globular: Makes his apartment appear as the interior of Kado.

CANON UPDATE
Near the end of March, 2020, Yaha-kui zaShunina returned to his world for a short time before returning on April 1st. Changes are as follows;
New Canon Point ▶ Post-series
At the end of the anime, Yaha-kui zaShunina is "killed" by Yukika, the half-anisotropic daughter of Shindo Kojiro and Tsukai Saraka. It's ambiguous exactly what happened to him, as though we do see his body get destroyed, the particles it dissolves into are seen leaving the universe and returning to The Anisotropic, and Yaha-kui zaShunina was never actually "tied" to that body to begin with, since it was just an interface. What actually became of him after that is unknown.
However, the novelization of the series presents a rather interesting answer to that question.
The novel (Seikaisuru Mado) is simultaneously an adaptation, a sequel, and neither of these all at the same time. It is the story of Nelk, the fictional author tasked with writing a novel adaptation of the Kado anime, who starts (maybe) hallucinating Yaha-kui zaShunina in his room. The zaShunina in Mado is in fact the same as the one from Kado, but from after the ending. This zaShunina has lost most of his explicit memory as a result of the extensive damage he'd sustained from Yukika destroying him, but retains his knowledge. Nelk tasks this amnesiac zaShunina with helping him write his novel.
I will be taking zaShunina from this point; post-destruction/reformation, with all of his memories wiped. As the novel lacks a complete translation, I will not be incorporating material from it apart from zaShunina's characterization and amnesia.
Because he has lost his memories but retains his knowledge, he will not remember any of his relationships from either canon or Prisma, but the emotional attachments will remain for these people. For example, if he liked someone before, he won't remember who they are, but that same like will still be there. Moreover, all information he'd read or learned in both worlds will also remain, but he won't remember the actual events behind learning them (ie. can recite all the words in a book verbatim but not remember actually reading said book). Personality-wise, he will return to much of how he was at the beginning of the series, but with his added understanding of mankind, emotions, and the universe. Aloof, but no longer naiive. For example, he comprehends immediately what kind of fallout would result from gifting an infinite energy source to all of mankind, whereas in the anime, he couldn't understand why humanity might turn down something he viewed as objectively beneficial.
As for power changes; fregonics no longer functions, and he is therefor as vulnerable as anyone else.
New Inventory
